“Swarg Lok Park - The Light of Life” by Vivvaan Bajpayee and illustrated by Joyeeta Gupta. Published by Notion Press. A story about three children centred around a park where they yearn to be.
Swarg Log Park in HSR Layout (a locality in Bengaluru) is the kind of park that is perfect and the best in the whole world. It is where every child wants to be. The park has a playground for children, library where one can read as well as borrow books to take home, walking track and plenty of greenery. What more can one ask for in a park?! These are why it is called as a paradise on earth by the author. Twins Varun and Tarun visit the park regularly as their grandparents stay nearby. They become friends with Ananya who also comes to the park.
Tarun, Varun and Ananya are children who take responsibility and help others whenever they get an opportunity. They help reunite a pet dog with its owner. They save a grandfather tree from being cut. They rescue an orphan child who is being forced into manual labour as it is against the law. They take it upon themselves to protect the park which is a haven for them and also do good to others whenever they get an opportunity. Read this charming book to savour the goodness of Swarg Log Park and find how an ideal park from the point of view of a child should be.
My nine year old son and I loved reading this book. He was happy to see the children not hesitating to take action when required. They did not think even for a moment that they couldn’t do something because they were children. Though they could easily have decided that it didn’t matter to them and just carried on. The book is special for us because it is the first one to be written by a child (ten year old to be precise) that we read. Vivvaan is a prolific reader and I had seen his YouTube videos earlier of reviews of books that he had read. It was a pleasure to have met him and his mother a few months ago in lit fests in Bengaluru. We were amazed by how he participated in most sessions with enthusiasm and interest. It was a pleasant surprise to know that he had written a book and we were happy to get it from him. Thank you for the book Vivvaan and Vidya!
