“The World of Butterfingers : Adventure in Texas and Other Stories” by Khyrunnisa A and illustrated by Abhijeet Kini. Published by Penguin. A cool collection of the chaotic misadventures of Butterfingers aka Amar Kishen who is bound to entertain everyone with his antics.
Amar Kishen has not earned the name Butterfingers for no reason. Wherever he goes there is sure to be chaos laced with comedy, thrills and spills of course! His adventures turn up into misadventures all the time. But then he does solve the problems that he comes across and saves the day. Despite being notorious for his clumsiness, he is smart enough to don several hats and scrape past all the tricky situations that he finds himself in.
The book has three stories featuring Butterfingers in the comic format. Amar and his friends are gobsmacked when they find what seems to be a pair of brand new baby shoes in a pile of garbage near the beach. Surely this mystery is so irresistible to the amateur detectives in them that they have to unravel and get to the bottom of it. The second story is set against an unexpected trip to Texas where Amar’s trademark clumsiness brings about unexpected opportunities and springs pleasant surprises. After all, being clumsy can sometimes cause extremely interesting things to happen leading to unexpected rewards. Then comes the grand finale in the form of a third story. Getting back to daily routine after the trip to Texas, Amar lands himself in a soup when he has to run a half marathon with his school principal to raise some much needed money for the school. Read the book to delve into the comical world of Butterfingers which is bound to bring some fun and cheer.
It was fun to read this book with my nine year old son. We had a whale of a time as we went through the stories. The antics of Butterfingers kept us entertained throughout the book and we couldn’t resist giggling whenever he messed up. His clumsiness got him into such hilarious situations always. We read the entire book in one go as we just couldn’t put it down. The word Butterfingers was quite relatable for my son as one of his friends uses it whenever he finds any of the other children in their group being clumsy while doing something. The character of Butterfingers clearly appealed to my son and he is looking forward now to read the other books on him by the author. The accompanying delightful illustrations enhanced the effect of the stories.
Recommended Age
