#462 - Dum Dum To The Rescue & Yet More Adventures of Little Shambu
by Reena I.Puri and illustrated by Savio Mascarenhas
“Dum Dum To The Rescue & Yet More Adventures of Little Shambu” by Reena I.Puri and illustrated by Savio Mascarenhas. Published by Penguin. The third book of the series featuring the adventures of beloved Little Shambu in chapter book format.
The misadventures of Little Shambu continue in this book as well like the first two from the series. After all, he and trouble seem to be destined to be together. With Shambu around, life is always exciting and no dull moment can ever exist. And when Shambu is involved, how can his loyal companion Dum Dum not be around! His best friend Shanti is also a part of some of these adventures. The troubles however aren’t so bad either. They almost always lead him into exciting and unexpected adventures with pleasant enough endings. He ends up being hailed as a hero most of the times inadvertently which is perfectly acceptable given that his intentions are never wicked :)
There are six stories in this book like the rest of the series. The adventures here involve having a poultry setup at home and ending up luring a crafty fox, a naughty little mouse causing mayhem in school, some suspicious looking moustached men making sinister plans, a school play going awry thanks to some mice and what is imagined to be an eerie encounter with some aliens on a stormy night. The last story is wordless and portrays how little Shambu and Dum Dum met for the first time. Read this hilarious book to escape into the entertaining world of little Shambu and savour his antics.
The book proved to be an exciting read and we had fun reading it. Little Shambu and the sticky situations that he gets into are always a joy to experience. My nine year old is glad to have been introduced to this endearing character that has charmed so many people over the years. He just couldn’t resist laughing over the silly and fun moments. The illustrations added to the charm of each of the stories. The last story was a visual delight. We loved the way the first book started with how Shambu met Shanti who went on to become his best friend and this book ended with how he met his favourite companion Dum Dum. The series has been an instant hit with my son and he loved book 1 - “Strangus Derangus & Other Adventures of Little Shambu” and book 2 - “In The Bear’s Den & More Adventures of Little Shambu”.
Recommended Age
The book is apt for children aged 7 and above.
