The “Bilingual Series Set” by Chitwan Mittal and illustrated by Ambika Karandikar. Published by Adidevpress. A set of three board books in English and Hindi featuring some cool and colourful animals and birds.
“One Elephant, Two Monkeys / एक हाथी, दो बंदर” is a charming book with bright and colourful animals and birds. Each spread shows a little child having fun with animals and birds. The text which is in verse format introduces colours and numbers to younger children. For the older children who are learning to read either English or Hindi, the text is simple enough and easy to understand.
“Pagdi For Sinh / सिंह की नई पगड़ी” is a delightful story of a group of wild animals who have decided to go shopping for some clothes to the bazaar. Sinh and his friends have a gala time checking out different kinds of clothing and trying them on. The bright charming illustrations showcase the different types of traditional attire and the wild animals. It is fun to imagine the animals wearing clothes so excitedly.
“Animal Band / जानवरों का बैंड” is a jolly book for those with who love music. A group of farm animals want to form a music band. They try to play music using different types of instruments. They enjoy themselves and are joined by other creatures around them. A melodious evening is what they end up having with lot of fun and joy.
The books were a source of delight for me and my nine year old son. He just couldn’t wait to turn the pages of the books to see which animals were coming up next and what they were up to. Be it the clothes they would try or the musical instrument they would play. He loves shopping as well as trying out clothes and found it totally relatable for the animals to be excited about :) He was happy that he could read the books in Hindi and understand new words thanks to the English text. I also read the counting book with my two year old niece and five year old nephew who were delighted and engrossed in watching the charming illustrations. The books are ideal for toddlers as well as early readers in English and/or Hindi. In our case my son is still practising his Hindi reading skills. So the books worked well for us.
Recommended Age
While the counting book can be used for children as young as 2 years and above, the other two books work well for children aged 4 and above.
