Almost a thousand years ago, in the eleventh century there lived an Indian scholar and monk called Hemachandra. He accidentally stumbled upon a fascinating number sequence while trying to create different rhythmic patterns using the various combinations of long and short sounds in music. A century after his death, this same number sequence caught the attention of an Italian mathematician called Leonardo Fibonacci who wrote about it in his book. Thus the sequence came to be named after him as the Fibonacci sequence.
The amazing thing about Fibonacci sequence is how nature seems to love it. It can be found in several things including flowers, eggs, seashells, stars and so on. Intriguing, isn’t it?! Read the book to know what the Fibonacci sequence is and how we can connect it to nature.
Having come across this book in one of the Funky Rainbow Buzzaars three years ago, I had bought this book for a future read with my son. When I came across a chapter on number patterns in his sixth grade mathematics book this time, I picked up the book to read with him. He found it very interesting and was able to relate to what he was reading. It was a trip down memory lane for me personally as the Fibonacci numbers program was what I got in my final exam in computer science practicals in twelfth grade and I was done with it in a jiffy. I remember coming back home so early that my mother was worried what had happened in the exam :) It was amazing to know more about what I already knew about the sequence. Books like these simplify concepts and present them in such an interesting and relatable manner making it so much fun to learn.
