“A Musical Road Trip” by Shyama Panikkar and illustrated by Lotta Farber. A charming and simple story for the little ones to learn about the seven notes that define Indian Music. The Sapta Swaras namely Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha and Ni are thought to have originated from the sounds of various animals and birds. This has been explained in an engaging way through the story of little Tara.
Tara wakes up excitedly on a Sunday morning. Her parents had promised to take her on a road trip. Off she sets on a journey during which she finds where the musical notes come from. She gets to hear each of them and learns the meaning of each note. She realises the strong bond that exists between nature and music. Apt for children aged 4+. My then six year old liked a storytelling session by Shyama and was keen to buy the book. He enjoyed reading the book and we kept practising the notes as we read :) Thank you Shyama for the autographed copy!
Where to buy from?
An independent indie bookstore, Funky Rainbow, from where I buy many of my books.
