“Farmer Falgu Goes On a Trip” by Chitra Soundar and illustrated by Kanika Nair. Published by Karadi Tales. A delightful story of Farmer Falgu who has had enough of his noisy farm and craves for some quiet time.
Farmer Falgu’s farm was quite noisy. The clucking of the hens, the mooing of the cows, the barking of the dogs and the quacking of the ducks was getting on his nerves. He needed a break from this racket. He decided to go on a trip to find some silence. He cleaned his cart, washed his bullocks and set out with some packed lunch.
On his way, he met an old man. The man asked him for a ride as he had a heavy sack to carry. Farmer Falgu agreed readily. The old man took out his drum and started to play. Can Farmer Falgu resist joining in with the old man as he sang? Will he forget about the silence that he was looking for? Who else do they meet along the way? Did the trip prove helpful for Farmer Falgu? Read the cheerful story to find out.
My eight year old has loved reading this story for the last three years. He enjoyed the story and couldn’t resist chuckling throughout the book. Farmer Falgu features in a couple of books and was one of his favourite characters. The bright and cheerful illustrations are an added bonus to the story. The message that things needn’t happen as planned to make us feel happy or better and there are unexpected turns more often than not which might prove to be good as well comes out so beautifully in the book.
