“How Bittu Bottu Got Better” by Ashok Rajagopalan. Published by Pratham. A humorous story of little Andy and his robot Bittu Bottu.
Andy Prakash was an extremely intelligent eight year old. He studied in class 10. Yes, you read it right! He had to given that he had more brains than anyone else at school including the principal. What better proof of his intelligence than Bittu Bottu which was a robot that Andy had built on his own!
Andy was now leading a life filled with fun and no work. Bittu Bottu did all the work for him. Even his homework. The only problem was that others were not happy by it. Andy’s dad was going nuts with the rising expenses of all the parts and the electricity bills. His teacher wasn’t happy as all lab work and homework was being done by the robot instead of Andy himself.
Matters took a grave turn when Andy sent Bittu Bottu to school one day in his place. And the robot answered his attendance. That was it! The teacher kept him back at school and sent an angry text message to Andy’s parents :) What happened next? Would Bittu Bottu be returned to Andy? What was Andy going to do without his robot? Can Andy rescue Bittu Bottu who is now in deep trouble? Read the book to know all of these. The quirky illustrations are sure to make one chuckle as they read.
My almost eight year old has enjoyed this book for almost a year now. He loved learning about the main components that go into the building of a robot in a fun manner through the story. He had seen the Roomba cleaning robot in action a couple of years ago and visited a restaurant in Chennai where food was served by robots. These robots had made him curious and he wanted to know more about them. The book worked well for this purpose.
Recommended Age
The book is level 3 and apt for children aged 6/7+.
