Today (June 21) is celebrated as the International Day of Yoga. “I Love Yoga” by Anita Raina Thapan and illustrated by Alankrita. Published by Tota Books. A book which is the perfect way to introduce the various yoga asanas and their benefits to young children.
The book starts off by talking about the benefits of Yoga and how it can make us feel the joys around us. Each Asana has then been described by talking about its meaning, how to do it and how it helps us. There are around 16 asanas such as Shavasana (Corpse Pose), Vrikshasana (Tree Pose), Parvatasana (Mountain Pose), Marjari Asana (Cat Pose), Vyaghrasana (Tiger Pose), Simhasana (Lion Pose), Ushtrasana (Camel Pose), Balasana (Child’s Pose), etc.
In the end some basic meditation and breathing techniques have also been introduced which help in calming down our mind, developing focus and helping our throat. Overall these yoga asanas connect us to the world of nature. There are many things which we can learn from the animals, birds and plants. This is one of those books which cannot be just read but need some physical activity to be done along with the reading. So it is fun for the children to do the asanas as they read. They can do all the asanas with ease over time.
Bought this for my son’s fourth birthday and he loved it. He has had yoga in school from the time he was 4.
Where to buy from?
An independent indie bookstore like Funky Rainbow, from where I buy many of my books.
