“I’d Rather Eat a Child” by Sylviane Donnie and illustrated by Dorothee de Monfreid. Translated from French by Sharmila Sarkar. Published by Tota books. A quirky story of a teeny tiny crocodile called Zulfi who has made up his mind to eat a child rather than anything else.
Zulfi’s parents are at their wits’ end trying to convince him to eat. All their efforts go in vain as Zulfi is fixated on his idea. Little does Zulfi know that he is smaller than he thinks until a naughty little girl shows him his place. He is going to have to eat a lot of bananas and grow up quickly before he can actually dare to eat a child.
The humorous story and equally delightful illustrations to match are going to be a treat for a child. We loved zulfi’s expressions. Definitely struck a chord for us :D Thanks to Vidya Mani for recommending this gem of a book during one of Funky Rainbow’s buzzaars. The book is apt for children aged 5+.
