“It’s an Amazing Universe!” by Arthy Muthanna Singh and Mamta Nainy & illustrated by Nirzara Verulkar. Published by Red Panda. An inspiring story about the life of Stephen Hawking.
The tale starts off on a cold morning in January at Oxford in England. A baby boy was born and was named Stephen. As a little boy, he was not like the other children. He didn’t like to do the things that they enjoyed. He didn’t like school. He often felt out of place. But he had a special gift. He looked at things differently and wanted to solve the mysteries of the world. He wasn’t interested in lessons at school and was often at the bottom of the class.
By no means was he slow. He realised that he loved to pull things apart and build them again. He also loved to experiment and invent. His classmates started calling him Einstein due to this ability of his. He then joined the university of Oxford at sixteen.
When he was just twenty one, he was diagnosed with a rare illness. The doctors predicted that he would only live for two years. But Stephen did not get deterred by this. He knew that he had too much work to do and too less time. So he started his research away. Though his condition worsened, he went on to make many discoveries and write many books. He became the great astrophysicist that the world knows him as. A moving story of passion, grit and determination.
Enjoyed reading the book with my seven year old. He loved the fact that Stephen persevered despite all the limitations imposed by his condition and managed to live longer than the doctors expected him to. Thank you Vidya Mani of Funky Rainbow for recommending this awe-inspiring book! Apt for children aged 5+.
