“Moodunnit” by C.G.Salamander and illustrated by Aindri.C. Published by Duckbill. A hilarious story about how little Ammu tries to solve the strange disappearance of vegetables from her parents’ cart.
Ammu’s parents fight over trivial things most of the time. Every morning they woke up very early and went from their tiny town of Vallioor to Tirunelveli. They would return with sacks of vegetables and fruits to sell. They would then arrange them on the cart and nap next to it till the first customer came. On one such morning, Ammu woke up first to find a strange occurrence. The fruits and vegetables had all disappeared. She woke up her parents hurriedly.
Her parents were flabbergasted. They started calling for the police. How could someone have taken away all their vegetables from right under their noses. The thief would surely have come in a helicopter as there seemed to be no other way for someone to steal without them knowing. The constable came to check what the issue was. While the adults were busy discussing, little Ammu decided to do her own sleuthing. She found some strange clues.
What happened next? Was Ammu on the right trail? Would she find who stole the vegetables? Would they get the veggies back? Were Ammu’s parents right about the helicopter? Would the constable be of any help? Read the delightful book to find out all these answers.
My eight year old has enjoyed reading this book for almost a year now. He was curious to solve the mystery along with Ammu. The humour in the book made him chuckle as he read it. The book is part of the “hook book” series by Duckbill and well suited for children who are beginning to read on their own. The fairly large sized text along with pictures are very helpful in making the gradual transition to chapter books with lesser pictures.
Recommended Age
The book is apt for children aged 5/6+.
