“On the tip of a pin was...” by Geeta Dharmarajan and illustrated by Ludmilla Chakrabarty. Published by Katha. A sci-fi story uncovering the mystery of the amazing and incredible wormholes.
On the tip of a tiny pin was the town of P.I.N.T.I.P.U.R. It had 20 houses, 20 children, a Lion, a Goat, a Cow, a Pig and a Worm. The worm was the most troublesome of the lot. Everyone felt that the worm was terrible and should remain underground. No one knew what to do with the worm.
All the other creatures have their own vagaries and cause problems. But the worm gets the bad name always. It takes a curious little girl to find out if the worm is really that terrible as her reputation states. She suggests that the worm be given the official role of the digger in Pintipur. Well the ball is in the worm’s court. Will she accept the role? Will she clear her reputation? Is she really that terrible? Take the extraordinary journey through this outlandish book to find out.
I had a rollicking time reading this with my seven year old. The book needs to be horizontally held, like a flip book, to read it. The illustrations are so amazing and creative. There is a fact sheet at the end about wormholes. Thank you Vidya Mani for recommending this in one of Funky Rainbow’s buzzaars. The book is apt for children aged 6+.
