Pokiri Parrot and the Needle-nosed Ojha
by Meenakshi Bharadwaj and illustrated by Stephen Aitken
“Pokiri Parrot and the Needle-nosed Ojha” by Meenakshi Bharadwaj and illustrated by Stephen Aitken. Published by Katha. A story filled with magic, fantasy, adventure and travel.
Pokiri, the Rajkumari’s pet parrot, is one of the most beautiful parrots. She is very naughty and loves stealing mangoes from Old Ojha’s mango grove. Irked by this, the Ojha stole Pokiri. Hearing the cries of the Parrot, the Rajkumari rushed to help and rescue him. But the Ojha had a pair of wings and flew away over the Thar desert away from the city of Jaisalmer.
What can the Rajkumari do now?Go on an adventure of course! She will need help of course as she needs magic to fly and pursue Ojha. Who comes to help her? Can she rescue Pokiri? Join the chase spanning over the length and breadth of our beautiful country across various different landscapes. From Jaisalmer to Delhi to the Himalayas, Sunderbans, Varanasi, Madurai, Thanjavur, Ooty, Silent Valley National Park and Cherrapunji. Armchair travel at its best! A lovely way to talk about all these places. As with most Katha books, this one too has a couple of pages containing facts about all the above places.
My seven year old enjoyed the book thoroughly! The chase proved to be very exciting for him as we had been to a couple of the places or read about them in other books already. For instance, he was excited to see the ghats of Varanasi where we have been and to spot the infamous Dokkhin Rai (tiger) in Sunderbans about which we have read in the book “In Bon Bibi’s Forest”. We love Stephen Aitken’s illustrations. This was the first book that we got from the school library and he is after me to buy the book now :) The book is apt for children aged 6 and above.
Where to buy from?
