“The Best Idea of All” by Varsha Seshan and illustrated by Neha Rawat. Published by Karadi Tales. A heartwarming story of three girls who come up with an idea which turns out to be the best one to save their Holi.
It is almost time for Holi, the celebration of colours. Siblings Antara and Tarini are fed up of listening to the “When I was your age“ conversations by the adults at home. They want to do something different that will leave the adults spellbound. So much that they should not use that phrase again. What they come up with should be something that no adult could think of even as adults let alone at a younger age! A flyer that came with the newspaper sets an idea in motion.
The sisters seek help of their friend Saira for executing the wonderful idea in secret. When they reveal their plan to everyone at home, everyone appreciates their thinking and work. Then comes an unexpected hitch when the adults get to know what the children want to do using their idea. Can they cross this hurdle in their path? What changes can they make for their plan to fall in place? Will their idea see the light of the day? Will it cause the desired effect? Read the delightful book to find out how the three friends try out their idea.
My 8.5 year old loved reading the book with me. He could relate so well to the characters and the theme of the story. The topic is so contemporary and has been presented without being too preachy. There were moments of humour and anticipation as to what would happen next that kept us racing past the pages. The book is part of the chapter books series for middle readers by Karadi Tales launched last year called “Minmini Reads”.
Recommended Age
The book is apt for children aged 8 and above.
