Today (June 3) is World Bicycle Day! I had to write about this book when I got to know. “The Bicycle” by Paavannan and illustrated by Ayush Rajvanshi and Mohit Srivastava. Published by Katha. A beautiful story of how an act of kindness can change someone’s life forever. The book has been adapted from the Katha award winning story called “The Journey”. It has been translated from Tamil by N. Kalyan Raman.
The story is narrated by the author of a time when he was a young man and longed to explore the big wide world. So he purchased a bicycle and started going everywhere. He took leave from his work and went on a long trip from Mangalore via Hassan.
On the way, his cycle had a puncture in the middle of nowhere. He started walking until a little boy called out to him and let him stay at his home till he got the cycle repaired in the nearest town. The little boy was fascinated that the young man had travelled all the way from Mangalore on a bicycle. He starts dreaming of going to distant places like the Himalayas on a cycle. He badly wanted a bicycle but couldn’t get one. Can his dream come true? Read this book to find out.
Bought this book three years ago when my son was 4 years old. He loved the story and was thrilled as he was learning to ride the bicycle himself. Thanks to Aashti Mudnani of Lightroom bookstore for recommending this book! Apt for 4+ year olds. Hopefully the days will be back soon when our little ones will be able to cycle around everywhere with little abandon! :)
Where to buy from?

An independent indie bookstore, Funky Rainbow, from where I buy many of my books.
