by Natasha Sharma and illustrated by Shreya Sen
“The Good Indian Child’s Guide to Eating Mangoes!” by Natasha Sharma and illustrated by Shreya Sen. Published by Harper Collins. A humorous and quirky take on how mangoes need to be eaten or rather devoured.
Well, haven’t we all come across guides of some form or the other. Why then should eating Mangoes be spared? :) The idea itself sounds bizarre? Don’t worry. This is the ultimate guide for the child inside each one of us to feast on mangoes. Eating a mango isn’t as easy as it seems. There are lots of steps involved. From finding a mango to knowing more about it and then trying to know more about yourself before you actually get to eat it. With a dash of some delicious mango recipes and some math related to mangoes thrown in.
The book is assured to leave you in splits. Eating mangoes after reading the book will never be the same again. What better time to read a book about mangoes than at the beginning of summer, the season for mangoes! And this book definitely has to be read in the right season, for it will make one crave for mangoes right away. The book is part of “The Good Indian Child’s Guide” series which takes things that are intrinsic to India and provide a humorous take on them.
My eight year old has enjoyed reading this book for the last two years. He loves mangoes and looks forward to summers every year just to feast on them. He couldn’t stop chuckling throughout the book. His favourite spread is of eating mangoes in karate style! :) The quirky illustrations enhance the experience that this hilarious book provides. Some of the other books related to mangoes that we have loved are “The Monkey King”, “Mangoes and Mischief” and “The Sweetest Mango”.
