“The Hundred and Thirty-Seventh Leg” written and illustrated by Madhuri Purandare. Published by Jyotsna Prakashan. A lovely story of a millipede. Who else can have so many legs as the title suggests! On a bright sunny morning, the birds woke up and started twittering. The millipede lay curled under a big leaf. She was disturbed by the birds and woke up grumbling. As she started crawling looking for food, she stumbled upon a stone in a hurry. She groaned in pain as she had broken a leg.
The millipede started asking all the creatures she met for help. Well, help was fine as long as she knew which of her legs was broken. It ain’t easy for a millipede to determine that! What did she do? How many animals did she meet? Was someone able to help her? A delightful tale woven around the plight of the poor millipede. The bright and charming illustrations complement the story so well. As usual Madhuriji has come up with a lovely story for the little ones. My six year old was amused to read this. Apt for children aged 4+. Thank you Vidya Mani of Funky Rainbow for recommending this one!
