The Pumpkin Seed written by Dr. Sangeeta Barve and illustrated by Radhika Tipnis. Published by Jyotsna Prakashan. A simple and delightful story of a little girl named Pinku who sowed a pumpkin seed.
Pinku watered the seed every day and hummed while doing so. The sapling loved her song! Now the sapling grew rapidly into a big creeper and produced flowers. It bore a pumpkin and her grandfather told her that it was a musical one.
Well, what is the connection between a pumpkin and music you might wonder. What did Pinku and her grandpa do with this pumpkin? No they didn’t eat it or give it to someone to eat. They gave it to Amjad Miyan to make something special out of it. Take a guess in the comments as to what the connection is :)
The second half of the book is very informative for a child. Thank you Vidya Mani of Funky Rainbow for recommending this lovely book.
My son’s school has the concept of integral project where children chose a simple topic and come up with questions, find answers for those and then put out a mind map with their learning. They then go on to do age appropriate research to find the answers and then present the same to the class. Usually this is done in school in small groups but this time everyone is doing it individually. One of the children had chosen pumpkin as their topic and we were excited to contribute the information about this musical connection of the pumpkin with the class :)
