“The Tree Boy” by Srividhya Venkat and illustrated by Nayantara Surendranath. Published by Pickle Yolk books. An endearing story of a little boy called Sid. He was not always a tree. Not until the day he missed saving a goal. His captain was very angry and shouted at him. He told him not to stand like a brainless tree. Sid pondered over this and felt that the tree did look brainless standing in one place doing nothing.
That night Sid felt very lonely. He sat down with his diary which he considered as his only friend. He wrote to the tree saying that it was very silly and he never wanted to become a tree. He threw away a plant from his room and felt happy that it was gone. But sometimes strange things happen when you least expect them. Sid turns into a tree later that night!!
How did that happen? Was being a tree really silly? Is a tree brainless? How did Sid feel being a tree? Should we be careful when we say things? All this and much more packed in this lovely story with quirky illustrations. Enjoyed reading this with my six year old. Apt for children aged 5+.
