“Wedding Clothes!” by Asha Nehemiah and illustrated by Prithvishwar Gayen. Published by CBT. A delightful tale of a friendly giant who is looking for some new clothes to wear for a royal wedding.
Golmatol Ram was the biggest man in the kingdom. He was so tall and so broad that he had to bend and walk sideways to enter the palace where he worked. His job was to clean all the high and inaccessible nooks and corners of the palace. An easy job for him which required no ladders at all!
One day the Royal messengers announced that the Princess was getting married. Golmatol Ram decided that he had to get a new set of clothes. After all it would be a special event and his clothes were old and filled with patches. Even his hat and shoes had so many holes. Now where would he get clothes or shoes that fit him. No shop would have things that for his size. No tailor or cobbler could make clothes or shoes for him. It was next to impossible to measure him in the first place.
Quite a difficult problem this was proving to be. What would he do? Was he going to find some clothes and shoes at all? Would he end up attending the wedding in his old attire itself? Read the book to join him as he does some out of the box thinking to find the clothes for the wedding.
My 7.5 year old has enjoyed reading this book for almost two years now. This book brought back pleasant memories of reading one of my son’s favourite books when he was a toddler. “The Smartest Giant in Town” by Julia Donaldson. Like all of Asha Nehemiah’s books that we have read so far, this one is also filled with warmth, love and humour. We love her choice of names and the way she weaves her web of stories so effortlessly with such simple characters and themes. The illustrations are so charming and the character of Golmatol Ram is so adorable. Thank you Vidya Mani of Funky Rainbow for recommending this lovely book!
