International Dot Day (September 15) Special. “When the Earth Lost its Shapes” by Shobha Vishwanath and illustrated by Christine Kastl. Published by Karadi Tales. A beautiful story showcasing the importance of the seemingly insignificant dot, team work and conviction.
Once upon a time, the Earth lost all its shapes. It became shapeless. No one knew where the shapes were. Had they been stolen? Had a storm blown them all away? Any of these could have happened. All things looked weird without their usual shapes. A tiny dot decided to take things into her hand. She took the help of other dots like her.
What happened next? Did the Earth get the shapes back? Will things get back to normal? Does the dot have it in her to set things right? How can an army of dots restore the shape of the world? The power of the dot as well as team work have been portrayed so well. My seven year old has loved this book since he was four. He now appreciates the strength of the dot after reading this book as well as a couple of other books such as “The Dot” by Peter H.Reynolds and some books illustrated by Bhil artists.
