“Who Drives a Driverless Car?” by Vidya Pradhan and illustrated by George Supreeth. Published by Pratham. A charming book that talks about the analogy drawn between the Pushpaka Vimana of Ramayana and driverless cars.
Summer holidays have started and little Suvi is excited. Her Paati (grandmother) is visiting them for the summer. Suvi wants to make the most of this opportunity to listen to Paati’s stories. Paati has been narrating the Ramayana to her. When they reach the part where Ravana is killed and Vibhishana becomes the new king of Lanka, Paati describes the Pushpaka Vimana which was gifted to Rama to return home.
Suvi felt that the Pushpaka Vimana was so similar to a driverless car of current times. Paati however was apprehensive. How can a car drive by itself? Is there magic involved? Suvi now took over the discussion. She looked up the internet to explain the science behind driverless cars to Paati. Read the book to find out how Suvi explains the concept in a simple and effective manner to Paati.
My eight year old has been enjoying reading this book for the last two years. He loves anything related to cars. So the book was treasured as soon as we got it. His only ruse was that he would like to drive a car himself rather than let it drive him around by itself. He hopes that all cars don’t become driverless by the time he is eligible to drive! A thought he had expressed even a few years ago when he was just about 3 years old. The last couple of pages have some facts about self driving cars.
Recommended Age
The book is level 3 and apt for children aged 6/7 and above.
