“Gulgul in Up-up-purra” by Ashok Rajagopalan. Published by Talking Cub (children’s imprint of Speaking Tiger). An adventure of Gulgul in Up-up-purra, the planet of cats and dogs, to be in the thick of the lol-fight.
It is Gulgul’s birthday and she is looking forward to a new pet as a gift from her aunt Jinny. Not a live pet like we earth dwellers have but a robotic one as those are the only kind of pets allowed in her planet GR33N :) Gulgul is very excited and they need to go to another planet called Puppura which has the best pet stores in the entire galaxy.
When their driverless space cab lands up in another planet called Up-up-purra by mistake, little did they (Gulgul, her dad Jit, Jinny auntie and her daughter Dinny) know what they were in for. The planet was filled with cats and dogs who fought all the time. This time it was a fight over the renaming of the planet. The cats wanted it as “Kittykudos”. And the dogs obviously couldn’t let that happen. A lol fight is going to be held to see who can make the funniest jokes and laugh out the loudest.
Gulgul cannot leave without knowing what will happen at the end. What is she in for? Will Gulgul get her birthday gift? Can she go to Puppura after all? What is the surprise that Jinny auntie has bought for her? What will happen at Uppuppura? Read the laughter and wordplay filled book to know the adventure that Gulgul has in this planet of dogs and cats.
My eight year old had a jolly good time reading this book with me. He is now a fan of Gulgul and wants to read the entire series. And I am game for it ;) After all, who can resist the charms of Gulgul and the brilliant wordplay and illustrations of the master storyteller Ashok Rajagopalan. Cats and Dogs can really be fun despite all their fights. And the bonus at the end of the book is some fun activities of drawing cats and dogs which is a treat for all the little ones! This is a recently released book from “The Adventures of Gulgul” series.
