“Gulgul in Saregamma” by Ashok Rajagopalan. Published by Talking Cub (the children’s imprint of Speaking Tiger). A musical adventure of Gulgul in planet Saregamma where everything is musical and exotic creatures make beautiful music.
Gulgul is excited to be going on a school trip to the planet of music called Saregamma. Gaanaguru, the grand maestro, runs a musical school there and teaches music to exotic creatures. He has created a stepzonix for producing music using the seven notes of music using seven notonimals (not to be confused with “not animals”). Saymorya the Peacock for Sa or Do, Rishi the pink bull for Ri or Re, Geeta the golden goat for Ga or Me, Madhu the heron for Ma or Fa, Panchi the Koel for Pa or Sol, Dharam the winged unicorn for Dha or La and Nisha the niliphant for Ni or Ti.
To Gaanaguru’s dismay, Nisha is missing. Has she flown back to her moon Nila? He cannot have his planned concert for the children of Gulgul’s school without Nisha. They cannot have the songs played without Ni or Ti. Nisha is one of the best. But why and where has she gone? What can they do to get her back? Can Gulgul help Gaanaguru and the notonimals of Saregamma? Can the concert take place? Will the runaway Niliphant return to Saregamma and finish her school? Read the sweet and melodious adventure of Gulgul with some songs of course!
My eight year old and I had a wonderful time reading this musical adventure. The wordplay and the songs kept us grinning. Not to forget imagining all the exotic notonimals taking their places in the melodies being played. We joined them too in the singing :) A treat indeed for those who love music and want to read a refreshing read filled with music. The book is the one of the latest from the “The Adventures of Gulgul” series. There are six books now in the series. Some of the others that we have read and enjoyed are “Gulgul in Jungalu” and “Gulgul in Up-up-purra”.
Recommended Age
The book is apt for children aged 8 and above.
